East Haven Cabin
A wilderness cabin on East Haven Mountain that provides a rustic, mountain-top hideaway for individuals and families or small groups. Though the summit is a remote site, it is accessible throughout the year by foot trail.
The cabin is well furnished and comfortable in any season. Heat is supplied by a small wood stove; propane appliances serve for both cooking and lighting. Cooking and eating utensils, spices, condiments and paper products are provided, as are blankets and pillows. Guests are expected to bring their own food and pillowcases sheets or sleeping bags.
Plumbing consists of gravity fed cold water during the warmer months and an all-season, attractively finished and enclosed privy. There is also an outdoor gas grill and picnic area. A 30 foot observation tower affords a 360 degree panorama of the mountains of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, southern Canada and eastern New York.
The Mountain and its ridges are networked with foot trails which afford interesting walks through Boreal forest and striking mountain panoramas.
The trail to the summit is one and one half miles in length and makes a vertical rise of 1100 feet. Hiking time is on the order of one and one half hours. Winter access adds a half mile to this distance and nearly an hour to the climbing time. There is no motorized access.
The cabin is well stocked with books, tapes and CD’s. There are tape and CD players, am/fm and weather radios, basic first aid supplies and a good selection of games and toys.
